Post-harvest
Storing maize after harvest without losses
5 min read
Simple drying and storage steps that keep weevils and mould away from your maize.
Dry the cobs well before shelling. Grain should rattle and crack when bitten — around 13% moisture.
Clean your store before the new harvest comes in. Sweep out old grain and dust, and repair holes in the walls and roof.
Use hermetic (airtight) bags. They cut off air so insects die without chemicals. Fill them fully and tie tightly.
Keep bags on pallets, away from walls, so damp cannot creep in. Check them every two weeks.
If you would rather not store at home, you can send your produce to one of our warehouses and sell when prices are better.
